Necessary Supplies

To make old-fashioned popcorn on the stove you will need a aluminum kettle with a lid and a handle, popping corn and oil or shortening. All it takes is enough melted oil to cover the bottom of the kettle. Also necessary is a stovetop with a flame and a big bowl for serving this crisp and tasty snack.

Procedure

Begin by melting shortening in the kettle or heating the oil over a medium to low flame. Once it is completely melted, add one or two kernels of corn. Put the lid in place. When the test kernels pop, the oil or shortening is hot enough to make good old-fashioned popcorn on the stove.
