It’s fun to look at wall murals but it’s not as amusing to view the prices on them. You have to expect such high prices, though. After all, the company takes virtually any image, prints it onto adhesive paper, and that allows you to transform a wall into an intriguing art piece. But who says that a wall mural has to remain on a wall? Can’t it be applied elsewhere – like on a dresser? Most people hang a wall mural to instantly give the room a whole new look but, when you apply the mural to a dresser, you perk up the furniture, and the entire room.
What type of wall mural do you like? One that looks like you could walk through it, and into a backyard cabana? A mural that looks like a scene from under the sea? Maybe you love the look of a field of flowers. Whatever is your favorite theme of wall mural, you can apply it to a dresser, and make it look like a piece of art. A horizontal scene is perfect for a dresser; a vertical scene is ideal for a chest of drawers. Many wall murals are really large, but you can also find some that are much smaller, and much more suitable for the dresser project.
Prepare the dresser by removing all handles, and by sanding down any rough areas, such as the areas where the handles were. It’s optional but, if you paint the dresser to be a similar color found in the mural, you’ll often end up with a dresser front that truly looks like a painting. It’s not necessary to paint the drawers; just paint everything except the drawer fronts.
Position the mural and begin smoothing it onto the dresser drawers only. After all of the drawers are covered, use a craft knife to carefully cut out around each one. Remove the excess areas of the mural and check to see that all edges are smoothed and affixed. The breaks in the image, between the dresser drawers, just serve to add more interest to the finished artwork. With the mural in place, put the knobs or handles back on.
There are other things in your home onto which you could attach a wall mural. A set of cupboards, or wall cabinets, is a fabulous place to create the unusual art. Wherever you put the mural, it instantly changes the look of that object, as well as the entire room.
